COME ONE, COME ALL / December 3

by Carolee, Deb & Jill

It’s show time! It’s time to post your original poem, written in response to Monday’s prompt — write an “enough” poem — or any other inspiration from the week. (We love it when you write to our prompt, but we also love it when you write on a whim. We all know how fickle that muse can be.)

What did you write? Please leave a link to your blog post, or leave your poem itself, in the comments!

Let the show begin! This post is “sticky” — it will stay right here in the spotlight for you all weekend.

Here’s how prompts work under the Big Tent

You’ve got all week to write your poem, based on this week’s prompt. Come Fridays (today!) you’ll find a “Come One, Come All” post (this one!) where you can 1) leave a link to your poem or 2) leave the poem in its entirety.

We want to give you all weekend to post your work and read each others’ work. Take your time. Enjoy all the poems that are new to the world.

Some hints

Hint: We’ve set Big Tent Poetry to Central Time.

Hint: An easy way to check on new post comments is via a RSS reader, if you use one. Here’s the address you would add to your reader: http://bigtentpoetry.org/comments/feed.

Hint: If you are new to our site, or put more than one link in your comment, your comment(s) will be held for moderation for your first few posts. We’re checking the filters often, so don’t despair! That said, if it takes more than a half a day to see it come live on the site, do email us at info (at) bigtentpoetry.org. (But be patient, okay?)

Circus etiquette

We figure you know how to play in the poetry community, but here are the basics:

Be nice. Have fun. Remember we aren’t a critique forum. We want to support each other as we bring more poetry into our lives. Only provide critique if someone specifically asks for it.

Although we love seeing our badge in the sidebar of your blog, we would appreciate it if you would also link back to the site in each of your poem posts. Linking within your post helps people travel back and forth from your site to the Big Tent Poetry site, and it helps perpetuate Big Tent Poetry “findability” in Google searches — and that helps us all.

Finally wrote another poem, after a few weeks off–I liked this prompt!

    Get Up

    • carolee on December 4, 2010 at 9:25 pm

glad the prompt was part of getting back in it!

Mine is Better Living With Chemicals. (And it is a weird one. Just sayin’.)

  3. barbara on December 3, 2010 at 12:19 am

It could probably do with a trimming, but for now it’s
    enough

I tried a blitz poem: “Poem to Write” (which did double duty as my PAD Day 29 poem.)

Btw, how does everyone manage to hyperlink their poem titles???

    • barbara on December 3, 2010 at 2:47 am

I just open a blank post, write what I’m going to say and form the link using the preset link thingy.
There is code for it, though. Not sure if it will work to put it here, but we’ll see.
Just copy this and paste your URL in place of the words, and the same for your title.

      TITLE HERE

      • barbara on December 3, 2010 at 2:53 am

        well, that didn’t work
        one more attempt
this would be inside the less than and greater than caret symbols instead of parentheses
        (a href=”URL HERE” target=”_blank”>TITLE HERE</a)

        • vivienne blake on December 3, 2010 at 3:03 am

In worpress, all I do is right-click on the title in my blog and then scroll down to “copy link”, click, and then paste it into here with Control V.

          • Cara Holman on December 3, 2010 at 1:15 pm

Cool. Thanks Barbara, Viv and Nan. I’ll give it a try next week!

Was treated to a few days in Niagara Falls by a dear friend earlier this week and shot some footage. ‘Tones of Noir,’ an effort of some 30 hours (with 6 hours of sleep somewhere in there) definitely is ENOUGH! Hope you enjoy!

Thanks for the great prompt, too!

  26. hedgewitch on December 3, 2010 at 10:29 am

I’m submitting this poem I wrote earlier in the week and posted to One Stop Poetry for their One Shot Wednesday, if that’s okay. I revised it to include the prompt word, but I think it fits into the groove of ‘writing about society’ and what is enough fairly well without it. If you are a died-in-the-wool fan of Ayn Rand, you might want to skip it, though:

    Atlas Mugged

There’s also a post a few entries above it inviting discussion on what influences your writing style, what poems have inspired you and why you write. Please feel free to contribute, or just list your three favorite poems.

    • Carolee on December 4, 2010 at 10:51 pm

of course it’s ok! BTP prompts are optional. we are happy when the poems come no matter where they come from!

hi, judy! can i help you? are you trying to get the badge?

      • sb on December 5, 2010 at 3:29 pm

Carolee, I couldn’t make the code work on my blog, either — and I’m so out of practice that I can’t remember code well enough to fix. So — I just swiped it. Copied it, downloaded it, uploaded it.
