COME ONE, COME ALL/ July 2
by Carolee, Deb & Jill
It’s show time! It’s time to post your original poem, written in response to Monday’s prompt — write a conversation poem — or any other inspiration from the week. (We love it when you write to our prompt, but we also love it when you write on a whim. We all know how fickle that muse can be.)
Leave a link to your blog post, or leave your poem itself, in the comments! And remember: Although we love seeing our badge in the sidebar of your blog, we would appreciate it if you would also link back to the site in each of your poem posts. Linking within your post helps people travel back and forth from your site to the Big Tent Poetry site, and it helps perpetuate Big Tent Poetry “findability” in Google searches — and that helps us all.
Let the show begin! This post is “sticky” — it will stay right here in the spotlight for you all weekend.
Here’s how prompts work under the Big Tent
You’ve got all week to write your poem, based on this week’s prompt. Come Fridays (today!) you’ll find a “Come One, Come All” post (this one!) where you can 1) leave a link to your poem or 2) leave the poem in its entirety.
We want to give you all weekend to post your work and read each others’ work. Take your time. Enjoy all the poems that are new to the world.
Some hints
Hint: We’ve set Big Tent Poetry to Central Time.
Hint: An easy way to check on new post comments is via a RSS reader, if you use one. Here’s the address you would add to your reader: http://bigtentpoetry.org/comments/feed.
Hint: Since we’re a new site, and you’re new to it, your comment(s) will be held for moderation for your first few posts. We’re checking the filters often, so don’t despair! That said, if it takes more than a half a day to see it come live on the site, do email us at info (at) bigtentpoetry.org. (But be patient, okay?)
Circus etiquette
We figure you know how to play in the poetry community, but here are the basics:
Be nice. Have fun. Remember we aren’t a critique forum. We want to support each other as we bring more poetry into our lives. Only provide critique if someone specifically asks for it.
One other thing
So it might be more than one. Read our barkers’ articles, if you haven’t recently. Great stuff. Here’s the list of links.

Evidently my poem is difficult to find.Sorry, it is in the comments section (4th down)
Still can’t find it. Why not just leave the permalink? If it’s a comment, the permalink can be found by left-clicking on the date, just as with posts in your template.
Oh if only…sorry Dave . I can play the Bach 48 Preludes and Fugues I can write poetry…But when it comes to computer technology..NADA
Perma link?
http://rallentanda.blogspot.com/2010/07/peggy-lee.html
xxoo
Permalink = short for permanent link. The direct link to (in this case) a blog post or blog comment. You kind of need it to participate in things like this, or to share blog posts by email, on Facebook, etc.
Google is your friend, and none of this is remotely difficult unless you’ve already convinced yourself that it is, in which case it’s impossible. :)
Thanks, Deb. The comment link is actually http://rallentanda.blogspot.com/2010/07/peggy-lee.html?showComment=1278002514729#c7197926451163364172

Here’s mine: Q & A
Here’s my imaginary conversation:
Knowing
Two for one this week.
Two very different Conversations
http://soulsmusic.wordpress.com/
Mine is questions asked by a student last fall. I told him I would consider them until spring, and then respond. My response in person was toned down from this response, but carried a similar message. I appreciate the opportunity to explore this. This is my favorite prompt, as far as the process unfolded.
Warning: graphic content.

I couldn’t comment, but you gave a fine history lesson, Derrick.
Your conversation asked some searching questions.
Sorry you had a prob. Thanks, Stan.
Questions — some simply have no answer…
Flash Dance — Happy 4th of July!!
The above are 3 off-topic offerings to celebrate our county’s birthday… ;)
America’s birthday!! – Although perhaps (I haven’t read) they celebrate this week’s Canadian celebration.
Yay for the international-blogosphere!
(And thanks for the celebratory poems, too, Rob.)
Here is my one-way conversation.
I rather enjoyed this style. Thank you for the prompt Big Tent and rest is peace AI!

I hate to do this, but for my own reasons, I am password protecting my post for this week…

Will take you to the request page. Just drop a comment there and I’ll send along the password and proper link. Sorry for the inconvenience.
I really enjoyed this prompt, and where it took my thoughts…

Marian I was unable to access your poem. Thought Id let you know.
I could access the poem, but it wouldn’t allow my comment: brave is a good word, I’m not there yet.
Elizabeth
Neither could I.
Pamela
nor me.

I corrected the address. Should work now.
(Had an extra http in there, and an extra dot at the end.)
nope. Still didn’t work.
Hmm. Worked for me. Try copying the link into your browser window.
Sorry about this. It takes me a while to catch on to computer things. My youngest daughter will be here tomorrow. She can help.
Thanks, Marian
I didn’t wind up writing to the prompt, but here’s this week’s work:
Song for the sixth day

My take on the prompt is called Summertime. I liked the prompt this time, conversation poetry seems a bit difficult to me.

The spam filter is an over-achiever today. It grabbed some of our regulars as well as new folks.
Try to post only once, or it thinks you really are spam. :-)
Oh! And nice to see you all here!

Yes indeed i am new here and to the blogging world.
Thank you for your warm welcome!

I agree, Pamela. Got to talk with Mary Magdalene, myself. Now off to read your blog and comment there! Amy
I had a splendid conversation with Hildegard de Bingen today. Simply splendid!

I’m in Maine on vacation and didn’t anticipate writing something for this prompt. Yesterday, a day we didn’t hike, we went to Sullivan , Maine to Obadiah’s sculpture studio. Obadiah lives on land that includes a granite quarry. After traveling on a narrow dirt road we arrived. A wooden sign announced that this was the place. Chickens and roosters were out and about. A woman who was tending a vegetable garden told us that Obadiah wasn’t home, but we were welcome to wander about. We did and saw some wonderful pieces behind trees, in open land ,around the chicken coop.
The poem is an imaginary conversation with Obadiah
http://word-painting.blogspot.com/2010/07/obadiah.html
Maybe this will work–if not I’ll post it when I get home.
Started as a conversation, ended as a question. A carryover from last week, as well.
“Steganography: the art and science of writing hidden messages in such a way that no one, apart from the sender and intended recipient, suspects the existence of the message.”
http://poemsaboutnothinginparticular.blogspot.com/2010/07/steganography.html
Nathan, thanks for defining this word. John’s book of Revelation was a good example of steganography. It was purposely written in cryptic prose so the Roman guards would let it pass through to the intended recipients. Rather than a literal vision, it was supposed to be “decoded” in a sense. Food for thought.
Here’s mine. I didn’t really follow the prompt, but it got me thinking…

Got IT?
Here is my feeble attempt. I might write another one when I am more lucid. I liked this prompt.
